Getting Around San Francisco: Insider Tips for INBOUND Attendees

Getting Around San Francisco: Insider Tips for INBOUND Attendees

There’s a lot to love about San Francisco—its layered history, iconic neighborhoods, creative energy, and distinctively walkable streets. As INBOUND makes its mark on the city this year, we’re excited for you to experience it all up close.

Whether you're walking from your hotel to the Moscone Center, grabbing dinner with fellow attendees, or carving out time to explore after sessions, a little preparation can go a long way in helping you feel confident and comfortable as you move through the city. Through the city’s “Show Your Badge” promotion, attendees unlock exclusive discounts at participating San Francisco restaurants, attractions, and shops.

Here’s what to know, what to expect, and how to make the most of your time here.

WALKING AROUND SAN FRANCISCO

One of the best things about hosting INBOUND in San Francisco is how accessible it is on foot. The neighborhoods surrounding the Moscone Center—from SoMa to Union Square—are filled with great coffee shops, galleries, green spaces, and local businesses. You’ll likely find yourself walking and that’s part of the experience.

To make it even easier to get to and from the Moscone Center, we’re sharing detailed Walking Maps that highlight the quickest, safest routes between INBOUND partner hotels and the venue:

BEST PRACTICES FOR TRAVELING AND EXPLORING

As you head out for the day (or night), it helps to keep a few simple habits in mind, many of which apply no matter where you're traveling.

  • Put your phone away while walking. Not only does it help you stay more aware of your surroundings, but it also gives you the chance to take in the city’s energy (and maybe catch a mural or view you’d otherwise miss).
  • Keep bags close to your body, especially in busy areas, and if you’re dining or sitting somewhere public, stow your bag in your lap instead of hanging off a chair. Little things like that go a long way.
  • Take off your INBOUND badge once you leave the Moscone Center. While you’ll want to keep it handy for "Show Your Badge" promotions around the city, we recommend keeping it in your bag when you're not onsite.
  • If you’re attending evening events, stick to well-lit, main streets when walking at night, and consider using rideshare if you’re heading out solo. Walking with a group and letting someone know your plans adds an extra layer of ease, especially if your phone dies or you lose service.
  • If you prefer not to walk, rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are widely available. The city’s Muni and BART systems are also reliable for short trips. Just keep your Clipper Card or payment method ready before boarding so you’re not searching for your wallet.

Small steps like these can make getting around the city easier and more enjoyable. Check out this page for more Travel Tips for Attendees.

EXPLORE WITH SUPPORT

If you’re ever unsure about directions—or simply prefer to walk with a little extra peace of mind—there are dedicated resources right here in the city that can help.

Two neighborhood safety programs offer free walking companion services between key downtown areas. The Yerba Buena Partnership serves the area between 2nd to 5th Street (Market to Harrison) with walkers in bright pink shirts, while the Union Square Alliance covers the area stretching between Union Square and the Moscone Center with walkers in blue shirts. Both are available by phone or text, and we recommend requesting walking companions with about 30–45 minutes of lead time:

Yerba Buena Partnership: 415-559-1362 (6:30 AM - 9:30 PM); coverage area is Yerba Buena to Moscone Center.

Union Square Alliance: 415-781-4456 (24/7 availability); coverage area is Union Square to Moscone Center.
